About the Project
Enhancing Accessibility and Aesthetic Appeal
To encourage utilization of the rear yard, we removed existing concrete pads and extended custom shell stone pavers to encircle the pool area. This created a seamless transition and visually appealing path that naturally drew people into the space.
Maximizing Usable Space
The rear yard presented a slope challenge, which we addressed by constructing a small retaining wall. This allowed for the installation of a putting green, providing a space for festive games and activities, thereby increasing the yard's functionality and enjoyment.
Improving Drainage
Proper drainage was critical to protect the home and landscape. We installed underground catch basins to effectively manage rainwater, pulling it away from the home's foundation and preventing waterlogging in the yard.
Incorporating Unique Features
A reclaimed granite farm trough was creatively repurposed into a charming fountain, situated in a gravel sitting area. This not only added a unique focal point but also provided a tranquil spot for relaxation.
Selecting a Thriving Plant Palette
We curated a plant palette that thrives in Florida's climate while maintaining a California aesthetic. The selection included large agaves and yuccas, bougainvillea, white roses, and rosemary, blending robust, drought-resistant plants with visually striking blooms.
Modern Edging and Irrigation
To define planting beds and add a modern touch, we used Corten steel edging. This material provides a sleek, contemporary look that complements the overall design. Additionally, the irrigation system was reworked to ensure efficient water distribution across the new landscape.
Creating Ambiance with Outdoor Lighting
The final touch was the design and installation of outdoor lighting. This not only enhanced the nighttime ambiance but also highlighted key features of the yard and garden, ensuring that the space could be enjoyed both day and night.
