Landscape Renovations for Entertainers in Jacksonville
The Pointe La Vista homeowners on Jacksonville's Southside had a raised wood deck that they loved to use, but it had rotted over time, becoming a safety concern and rendering it unusable. As avid entertainers, they had just completed renovations to their home's kitchen and interior and were eager to extend these improvements to the exterior.

Cindy transformed our backyard into a stunning terraced entertainment space with beautiful wrap around brick steps, lighted brick columns, low-seating walls and overhead string lights. She listened to how we envisioned using the space and with her gifted eye for design created a fantastic backyard far exceeding our expectations and vision. Once the tear out and installation process started, it moved efficiently with Cindy overseeing all phases to ensure proper implementation. We truly enjoy spending time in our backyard year-round, and we are extremely grateful to Cindy for it!
About the Project
Our task was to design outdoor spaces that would replace the old deck, enhance functionality, and provide aesthetic appeal, ensuring a seamless transition from the updated interior to the new exterior environments.
Replacing the Old Deck
The existing raised wood deck had rotted and was a significant safety concern. We designed a new outdoor area that addressed these issues while enhancing the overall functionality. By incorporating changes in levels, we created both intimate and expansive spaces suitable for various family gatherings and entertaining purposes.
Creating Versatile Entertainment Spaces
Our clients desired distinct areas for different activities:
- a large farm table for dining,
- comfortable seating for casual chats,
- outdoor TV watching,
- and spaces featuring the soothing sound of water.
To meet these needs, we selected brick and bluestone as the primary materials for the extensive patios. These materials not only provided durability and longevity but also matched the existing architecture, reflecting the home's brick wall design and ensuring a cohesive aesthetic.
Designing with Aesthetic and Practical Considerations
A custom-designed fountain was incorporated to enhance the relaxing ambiance, providing the desired auditory appeal.
The landscape design was integral to shaping the entrance and experience of the gardens. As one progresses through the gardens, the trees gradually increase in size, guiding the eye upwards and obscuring the roofs of neighboring homes, creating a sense of secluded tranquility.
Ensuring Proper Irrigation and Drainage
To maintain the quality and usability of the patios, we installed proper irrigation and excellent drainage systems. This was essential to prevent water accumulation and ensure the longevity of the landscaping and hardscaping elements.
Incorporating Thoughtful Lighting
Outdoor lighting was a key component of the project from the beginning. We meticulously planned the infrastructure to support various lighting fixtures, ensuring the spaces are well-lit and inviting during the evening hours. This not only enhanced the functionality of the outdoor areas but also contributed to the overall ambiance and safety.
